In this 'Irish Rhapsody', the composer draws from the rich treasure trove of Irish folk music, weaving three well-known melodies into a beautiful whole. The first melody, Brian Boru's March, gets a refreshing makeover, with drums and flutes playing an important role. Then follows the melody of The Minstrel Man, atmospherically rendered by various instruments and framed by a simple yet striking harmonisation. As a rousing finale, there is the cheerful The Irish Washerwoman – this joyful conclusion brings this musical visit to the endlessly green island to an end.
