This short suite can be performed in any conceivable instrumentation (possibly including piano). School’s Cool was commissioned by the Yamaha wind instrument class of the Frauenwaldschule in Nieder-Mörlen (Germany), to mark their relocation to a different building. The orchestra members found their former school 'cool' because they could make music there so well. The first movement expresses this joy with a powerful beat in triple time. The second movement is a kind of pavane, in which a touch of melancholy resonates. The third movement forms a lively finale with a groovy funk beat. A delightful suite for young musicians.
