In part 1, note values up to eighth notes are discussed within a limited range, as well as a number of accidentals. Additionally, attention is paid to the most important alternate fingerings. The history of the instrument is described on a special page with beautiful illustrations.

In part 2 – in addition to a rhythmic expansion to sixteenth notes and the introduction to the 6/8 time signature – a chromatic tonal expansion is on the program. Furthermore, each book highlights playing techniques and exercises tailored to the specific instrument. A page with new information about the instrument is again a valuable bonus.

In part 3, playing numerous pieces takes precedence, but new scales and intervals are also discussed, as well as Theodor Tonleiter's explanation of major and minor keys. Students learn to improvise over a chord progression. Furthermore, part 3 includes rhythmic development to the most common and used combinations of note values.
