Arsenal was written to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Harmonie van het Spoorwegarsenaal (Railway Arsenal Concert Band), based in Mechelen. It is a rather stately concert march with several beautiful themes and a broad trio melody. The premiere took place at the Cultural Centre of Mechelen on May 11, 1996, during the solemn opening event of the jubilee year.
