The Edelweiss Brass Orchestra is a Japanese amateur wind orchestra based in the heart of Tokyo. The ensemble was founded in 1978 and has undergone an interesting musical development over the years. For their 40th anniversary concert in 2018, Jan Van der Roost was commissioned to write a new work. Hidamari can be translated as In the Sunshine. A short quote from the famous musical The Sound of Music ('Edelweiss', of course!) serves as a nod to the orchestra's name. After this slow passage, the lively overture concludes with a march-like finale (based on musical material from the introduction). Hidamari expresses the fact that the EBO is a home for all its members: together, they form one big family.
