Olympica is based on three main themes. The first theme is characterized by a radiant brass melody, playfully accompanied by woodwinds and festive percussion. This is followed by a spirited and virtuosic allegro, in which the woodwinds, in particular, are prominently featured. The third theme is chorale-like in character. After a chamber music passage, the allegro returns, culminating in a grand finale. The colorful instrumentation and versatility of this composition allow for a sparkling performance.
