Introduction to Improvisation is intended for musicians who want to do more than just play notes from sheet music. Anyone interested in pop, jazz, and/or Latin American music can use it: no specific prior knowledge is required.

It's difficult to say what you need to be able to do if you want to use this method. But regarding your instrumental skills, I assume you can play scales fluently on your instrument over a decent range and have experience reading music.

For pianists, guitarists, and bassists, some experience in accompanying is helpful, but absolutely not necessary.
