Introduction to Improvisation is intended for musicians who want to do more than just play notes from sheet music. Anyone interested in pop, jazz, and/or Latin American music can use it: no specific prior knowledge is required.

What you need to be able to do if you want to work with this method is difficult to say. But in terms of your instrumental skills, I assume you can play scales on your instrument fluently over a decent range and have experience in reading music.

For pianists, guitarists, and bassists, some experience in accompanying is useful but not absolutely necessary.
