The motet Exsultate, jubilate KV 165 is one of the smaller sacred musical works that Mozart wrote at the archbishop's court in Salzburg, but today it is one of Mozart's best-known sacred compositions. The text was based on a free psalm poem, a literary genre that was very popular in Italy at the time.
The form corresponds to the Italian Sinfonia: two fast arias enclose a slow middle movement, preceded by a short recitative. The final movement, a coloratura-rich Alleluia, establishes a connection to the liturgy.
