This film score-like composition tells the story of the Anglo-Saxon monk Lebuinus. Around the year 768, he founded a church in Deventer with the aim of converting the pagan Saxon population. Contrasting themes, following one another, musically depict the IJssel valley, the Saxons and Lebuinus, the building of the church, and its destruction in the struggle against the Saxons. The 'IJssel valley theme' resonates one last time in a minor key until all themes converge in a radiant finale. Impressive!
