Purcell: Rondeau (Accordion Ensemble)
This rondeau was originally an instrumental dance for strings in the play Abdelazer, or The Moor's Revenge; it was composed by Purcell in the year of his death, 1695. The entire work is said to contain only one song and otherwise instrumental music, including this Rondeau. The form is A B A C A – this is the smallest rondo possible in formal theory. It is also known as a French Baroque rondo. Myriam Mees wrote a very successful arrangement for accordion orchestra.
