It's no secret that many contemporary harmonica microphones fall short both sonically and physically compared to their vintage counterparts. We wanted to change that: Introducing the Harp Blaster HB52. Designed with passion and great attention to detail by HOHNER and sE Electronics, specifically for today's players.
Instead of looking at competing products to shape the sound of the Harp Blaster, we drew inspiration from a select group of professional players. The goal was to create an exceptional microphone perfectly suited to their needs. Designed to uncompromising standards, combining fantastic sound quality with optimal ease of use and maximum durability. After all, if a microphone can become a seamless extension of the artist's emotional output – rather than a distraction or an obstacle – the music can be played and achieve maximum sonic quality and expression unimpeded. Together, HOHNER and sE pursued this ideal, creating a state-of-the-art product that will satisfy the most demanding harmonica player.
By combining sE's expertise in dynamic elements and acoustic design with HOHNER's unparalleled competence in harmonicas for over 160 years, the Harp Blaster meets the highest expectations of performing musicians and demanding sound engineers.
With its highly precise element and sophisticated shape, the microphone is perfectly sized for easy cupping and handling. It responds directly to your hand technique and musical expression. Furthermore, the Harp Blaster HB52 was designed with input from professional harmonica players to ensure it is comfortable to hold and use (for extended periods). Its high output level and high impedance will drive your amplifier well without the need for a DI, impedance converters, boost pedals, or stomp boxes. In addition to its convenient size, the Harp Blaster's flat and sleek grille ensures a perfect fit and allows for powerful hand effects.
The Harp Blaster HB52 is a serious modern microphone featuring the highest quality components. It is entirely handcrafted from metal and features a thick die-cast body with zinc alloy parts and chrome details. Not only can it withstand the unique harsh conditions a harmonica microphone may face every night; it will do so while enabling much better sound compared to other harmonica microphones.
The microphone features a volume control using a Bourns® potentiometer and a knurled chrome knob with a diamond pattern, making it non-slip and reliable. If you prefer not to have volume control, it can be internally disabled.
We chose to use an XLR connector instead of a hardwired cable, a 6.35mm jack, or a screw-on connector. This is often the Achilles' heel for harmonica microphones. A hardwired cable can easily suffer from a broken solder joint, turning the microphone into a paperweight until it can be repaired. An XLR connector offers better connectivity that won't become problematic or noisy (crackling and/or hissing) over time. The internal locking mechanism adds extra signal security – in case the cable is pulled, snagged, or stepped on, for example. However, the locking mechanism of the HB52's XLR connector can also be easily disabled if that is your preference.
As mentioned before, this microphone is not delicate. You can drop it, kick it, and/or hammer nails with it. It's built to be a road-ready tool. Do us a favor and don't submerge it in boiling water or anything else ridiculous. With that exception, it should last a lifetime!
