It all started when two Frenchmen, Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo, decided to try something new after having sold over ten million records with their group The Ritchie Family. The idea was to form a new group inspired by the American macho myths of the 1970s: cowboys, Native Americans, men in leather, soldiers, and police officers. Thus, the Village People came into being. Their secret lay in combining a catchy disco beat with an energetic, colourful, and humorous performance. The Best of Village People is a medley that includes the following songs: In the Navy, Y.M.C.A., and Macho Man.
