Buckaroo Holiday, comes from the cowboy ballet Rodeo, which Aaron Copland composed in 1942 – and which he later adapted into Four Dance Episodes. This robust first movement features many syncopated rhythms and aptly portrays the cowboy life (the word buckaroo is derived from the Spanish word vaquero and means cowboy). Some melodic lyricism is also present. This excellent transcription for concert band is by Ed Keeley. The original is well served in this arrangement.
