In Fantasy for Marimba, the marimba is given full honours as a solo instrument, but the rest of the wind orchestra also plays an important role. The work consists of four cohesive movements. It begins with an Allegro, in which the marimba and orchestra present two themes that are further developed in the subsequent Andante Misterioso. In the third movement, indicated with Tempo rubato, the orchestra gets a brief respite. Now it's the marimba's turn to perform a virtuosic solo. The last movement, an Allegro energico, leads the work with passionate intensity to a grand finale...Majestic!
