Horen, lezen & spelen – the most comprehensive method for wind instruments – has been published for thirteen different instruments in three parts, suitable for both group and individual instruction. This successful method is compiled according to contemporary standards and requirements of music education and the associated examinations. Each book is packed with ear training exercises, games, puzzles, tips, and interesting facts. The accompanying CDs provide extra playing enjoyment.

Parts 1, 2, and 3

In all three parts, Dr. Checkup is the whimsical guide who always accompanies students with useful information and tips. In part 3, he is joined by a certain Theodor Tonleiter.

In part 1, note values up to eighths in a limited range are covered, as well as several accidentals. In addition, attention is paid to the most important auxiliary fingerings. The history of the instrument is described on a special page with beautiful illustrations.

In part 2 – in addition to a rhythmic expansion to sixteenth notes and the introduction to the 6/8 time signature – a chromatic tonal expansion is on the program. Furthermore, each book highlights playing techniques and exercises specifically tailored to the instrument concerned. A page with new information about the instrument is again a valuable bonus.

In part 3, playing numerous pieces comes first, but new scales and intervals are also covered, as well as Theodor Tonleiter's explanation of major and minor keys. Students learn to improvise over a chord progression. Furthermore, part 3 contains rhythmic development up to the most common and used combinations of note values. Interesting facts about the construction of the instrument are discussed on a special page.
