Horen, lezen & spelen – the most comprehensive method for wind players – has been published for thirteen different instruments in three volumes, suitable for both group and individual instruction. This successful method is compiled according to contemporary standards and requirements of music education and associated examinations. Each book is packed with ear training exercises, games, puzzles, tips, and interesting facts. The accompanying CDs provide extra playing enjoyment.
In all three volumes, Dr. Checkup is the witty guide who continuously accompanies students with useful information and tips. In volume 3, he is joined by a certain Theodor Tonleiter.
Volume 1 covers note values up to eighth notes within a limited range, as well as several accidentals. Additionally, attention is paid to the most important auxiliary fingerings. The history of the instrument is described on a special page with beautiful illustrations.
In volume 2, in addition to a rhythmic expansion to sixteenth notes and the introduction to the 6/8 time signature, a chromatic tone expansion is on the program. Furthermore, each book highlights playing techniques and exercises tailored to the specific instrument. A page with new information about the instrument is another valuable bonus.
In volume 3, playing numerous pieces takes precedence, but new scales and intervals are also covered, as well as Theodor Tonleiter's explanation of major and minor keys. Students learn to improvise over a chord progression. Furthermore, volume 3 includes rhythmic development up to the most common and used combinations of note values.
