Missa Katharina is a mass consisting of the standard movements Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus, and Agnus dei. Instrumental movements have been added: a Prelude, Offertory, and Postlude, as well as an Alleluia and an Amen. The Prelude is intended for the beginning of the mass, the Offertory comes between the sermon and the communion service, and the Postlude comes at the end of the mass. The Alleluia is sung after the Gloria, and the Amen follows the Agnus dei.
There are several performance options:
- an integral version;
- a version with only the standard movements;
- a version without choir, with only three instrumental movements;
- a performance of each individual movement.
Missa Katharina was primarily written for choir, soprano solo, and concert band. The mass can also be performed with choir and organ or piano. If no suitable soprano can be found, the sopranos of the choir can take on the solo part.
