Jacob de Haan: Sketches from Dinsper (Accordion Ensemble)
Sketches from Dinsper tells a musical story in three connected parts about the Achterhoek village of Dinxperlo, on the German border. The first part begins with the Batavierenrace, a student relay race from the University of Nijmegen to the University of Twente, which crosses the border back into the Netherlands near Dinxperlo after a route through Germany. This theme is interspersed with adventurous and exciting measures that depict the smugglers who once played a role on both sides of the border. In the second part, the annual procession in Dinxperlo is expressed musically. The third part begins with the lively sounds of the border market, which takes place annually on Ascension Day. The festivities are interspersed with chorale-like sounds – based on the smallest church in the Netherlands: a local attraction. Both elements lead the work to a captivating end.
