This work was commissioned by the Christian Music Association Excelsior from Schraard. Scadawerth is the oldest written name for this Frisian village, which, according to tradition, was not founded but once fell from the sky. Scadawerth thus opens with a view of the starry sky, from which Schraard descends to Earth. The village then takes shape, with the church at its center. The subsequent fast section depicts its turbulent history. In the slow section, the 'Schraard chord' appears: a cluster built from the notes A-B-C-D-Eb. The fast final section portrays the vibrancy of the population. Psalm 150 plays an important role throughout the entire composition.
