This three-part concert work is a tribute to French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi. The first part describes Bartholdi's most famous statue, the Statue of Liberty in New York, which also gave its name to this work. This is followed by a musical depiction of the statue of an angel with a trumpet, which can be admired in Boston. Finally, Jan de Haan portrays the Lion of Belfort in France, a monumental statue 22 metres wide and 11 metres high. Liberty was performed at the unveiling of this last statue.
