Jan Van der Roost: The Essential Collection

When you turn fifty, having been on Earth for half a century, it's definitely a milestone in your life. Often, the birthday celebration takes place in private, but sometimes there's a wider audience to share in the joyful occasion. The birthday person receives gifts and best wishes: in short, it's a happy event to look forward to… albeit sometimes with mixed feelings! For me, March 1, 2006, was that special day. Of course, I enjoy receiving gifts, but I find it just as fulfilling to be able to give something myself. And that's what I've done with this special CD box, which contains all the works for wind orchestra that I composed in the first fifty years of my life. Most of the recordings have appeared on previous CDs, but there are also a few 'first recordings.' In consultation with my publisher, De Haske, I decided to select only my works for wind orchestra and to arrange them more or less thematically. With the wide variety of genres and styles, everyone will find something to their musical taste. Both bestsellers and rarely performed works are included - there's also variety between short and long, difficult and easy, serious and playful, profound and entertaining, slow and energetic... just choose! All works have one thing in common: I wrote them with dedication and care, and I incorporated all the ideas and techniques I had within me at the time of writing. Wishing you much listening pleasure!
