Jan Welmers dedicated this composition of Psalm 117 to Bert Matter (Zutphen). In the explanation of the composition, he wrote the following. "The intention is for the person playing this piece to become captivated by the bass figure. The accents should be felt on every first note of the bar, creating a sense of breathing. To achieve this, playing techniques that enable the intended effect must be used. The prominence of the bass figure continues until other forces in the upper voices more or less neutralize this position" (according to the composer and organist Jan Welmers). The composition is for advanced players and has a duration of 14 minutes.
