Klezmoresque

Klezmer is the traditional music for weddings and celebrations of Eastern European Jews. Its origins date back to the sixteenth century. Klezmer was played by itinerant Jewish musicians who picked up elements of local music cultures wherever they went. The music later found its way to America. This music remains captivating due to its synthesis of familiar sounds and exotic turns – as well as its simultaneously melancholic and joyful mood. Roland Kernen created a three-part work in klezmer style for variable instrumentation.
