The French composer Georges Bizet was a brilliant pianist and composer. His most famous work is the opera Carmen, initially criticized in France for its "obscene libretto," but soon widely regarded as a masterpiece, thanks in part to its appealing melodies, Spanish temperament, and lively rhythms. The vibrant march Les Toréadors is one of the best-known scenes from Carmen. Tohru Takahashi was inspired by this infectious music to write a fine transcription for concert band.
