The name of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is inextricably linked with the German city of Leipzig. This modest and dutiful master composer was cantor of the Thomaskirche in Leipzig from 1723 until 1750, the year of his death. Since the early twentieth century, the annual Bachfest has taken place in this city, which inspired the Dutch composer Henk Hogestein to write Memories of Leipzig, based on a beautiful theme from one of Bach's arias.
