For Music for a Solemnity, Jan de Haan was inspired on the one hand by the centuries-old tradition in the Drenthe town of Hoogeveen of using drums to call people to church, and on the other hand by the music of the successful American composer John Williams. This special combination resulted in a festive work with rhythmic patterns and melodic lines that show respect for Williams' oeuvre.
