Oscar van Hemel: Isodorus

Oscar van Hemel (1892-1981) was a Dutch composer of Belgian origin. As a violinist, he worked at the then Dutch Opera in Amsterdam. In 1918, he became a music teacher, teaching violin, piano, and music theory at the Bergen op Zoom Municipal Music School. In the following years, he studied composition with Willem Pijper, who greatly influenced his composing style. Van Hemel's oeuvre includes five symphonies, eight concertos, chamber music, string trios, works for piano and wind instruments, songs, and choral music. One of Oscar van Hemel's choral works is Isodorus, written for mixed choir.
