The Portico 542 is a "Lunchbox" Tape Emulator. A true tape machine resides in this small box! Known from the Portico range, now in Lunchbox (API) format. In addition to a fantastic tape emulation with blend function, the 542 also features variable Silk and a Soft-Clip limiter for the ultimate magical analog edge in your mix.
Features
Tape Section
- Tape Effect In: illuminated pushbutton, activates tape emulation circuit
- Trim: ±12dB level adjustment at the input, before the tape circuit
- Saturation: continuously variable, drives record gain up and replay gain back for consistent output level; also controls low-frequency compensation (more boost at low saturation, less at high)
- 15/30 IPS: switchable between two frequency curves; 15 IPS with head bump around 60Hz and stronger high-frequency rolloff, 30 IPS flatter with head bump around 120Hz
- Blend: continuously variable mix of pre- and post-tape signal, independent of Silk/Texture
- Soft clip: active from drive level 5, tames sharp transients, adjustable via blend
Silk/Texture
- Silk/Texture: illuminated pushbutton, three positions (Off, Red, Blue)
- Red: accentuates harmonics in high-mid and high frequencies
- Blue: accentuates harmonics in low-mid and low frequencies
Metering
- Level meter: 8-segment LED, shows output level before the Silk circuit
- Drive meter: 8-segment LED, shows level to the "record head" when tape effect is engaged
