Satoshi Yagisawa: Homage (Harmony)
This work was commissioned by the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force Band (part of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Forces), based in Kure City, Hiroshima, to celebrate the orchestra's sixtieth anniversary. The composer used a passage from Kosaku Yamada’s Umi No Sakimori (Sakimori of the Sea): ceremonial music of the Maritime Self-Defense Forces. The result is Homage, in which Yagisawa expresses his respect for Yamada and his work. It is a tribute to a composer who wrote a large number of Japanese songs, among other things.
