Fields of Honour was commissioned by l'Orchestre d'Harmonie de Beauquesne, France. The work tells the story of the Battle of the Somme in World War I – a battle with more than a million casualties. The music describes the events from before the battle to the time after. The impressive composition has the structure of a symphonic poem and is very dramatic and emotional, with every instrumental group facing a challenge to dedicate themselves to.
