Thierry Deleruyelle: Keystone

Keystone tells the story of the Odeon in the Dutch town of Vriezenveen. Historically, an odeon was the name for a building in Greek-Roman antiquity where singing, music, and poetry were practiced. In 1998, the members of the Vriezenveen Harmonie chose this name for the cultural center they were going to build. The piece slowly begins with the basic instruments and gains speed through a contrapuntal passage in which the main motif constantly alternates between instrument groups. After a slower section, the music accelerates again, culminating in a majestic chorale that reflects the beautiful Odeon.
