Toets & Spel is a complete and contemporary piano method based on a consistent development of piano technique and hand positions. The repertoire consists of a mix of familiar – including Dutch – and newly composed songs in many different styles. Various games, puzzles, and assignments contribute to the development of theoretical knowledge; in addition, various ear training, rhythm, and improvisation exercises are covered. Toets & Spel offers many extras, but leaves the teacher room for their own pedagogical ideas. The appendices with piano accompaniments offer the possibility to provide musical support and extra playing fun during lessons.

In volume 1, the foundation is laid. The included DVD will support the student, especially in the beginning, in understanding concepts such as pulse, tempo, and meter. The well-known pianist Cor Bakker provides various practical tips for the beginning student. In addition, the DVD contains a game to train note reading: Boer Bennie en de Notendief.
