This suite tells the story of the French town of Tulle in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Tulle, built like Rome and Lisbon on seven hills, is picturesquely situated on the Corrèze River. The first part opens with a stately introduction, followed by a historical march through the streets of Tulle. We pass the Notre Dame Cathedral and the characteristic medieval and Renaissance houses, such as the Maison de Loyac. Tulle was once the center of the production of tulle, a finely woven fabric named after the town. The second part is about this, sounding very graceful at times due to the use of tulle in ballet skirts and wedding dresses. The third part was written in commemoration of the Tulle massacre in June 1944. In a retaliatory action by the German SS, a large number of Tulle citizens were killed. The emotions expressed here consist of a combination of sorrow and solace. The final part features the festive sounds of the annual May fair on the Champs de Mars and Place de la Cathédrale.
