Sample Repertoire Oboe (Compositions A Exam)

This book contains newly composed pieces of music that you can use for your A-level exam. Well-known wind music composers specifically sat down at the composing table (actually, the composing computer) to create this new repertoire: an extensive selection of suitable music that you can play during the A-level exam and in the preparation time leading up to it. Of course, you can also play this music on other occasions, for example, when performing at the music school, with the music association, or during a soloists' competition.

There are pieces with and without piano accompaniment. So you can present yourself as a soloist, but also together with a pianist. For your exam, you will prepare at least two pieces with accompaniment (ensemble playing) and two without accompaniment. Perhaps you can even play certain pieces or parts of them from memory. Give it a try!

On the accompanying CD, you can hear how the music sounds when performed by a famous wind player. A good example encourages good imitation, but don't lose sight of your own interpretation.

The piano accompaniments are also on the CD. This is useful if your teacher doesn't play the piano. But it becomes truly 'real' when your teacher or another pianist plays the piano accompaniments. That's why we have printed them in this book.

At the back of the book are a few 'prima vista melody' pieces. With these, you can practice 'sight-reading'. (There is also a separate book for this: Prima Vista Exam A.) This is important, because in your orchestra you will also constantly receive new pieces of music, and 'sight-reading' will come in handy then.
